Time Flies When You Are Having Fun

Updated: Sep 1, 2022

The month of July finished as quickly as it arrived. The fact that we are already into the second day of August is wild to me. As I reflect on last month, it reminds me of the age-old idiom; time flies when you are having fun. I grew up hearing this phrase quoted to me quite often during my childhood. Although I understood the meaning of this saying from a young age, I didn't truly accept it or experience it until adulthood.

Now I look back on various seasons of my life, and although the days may feel long, the fact is that time is fleeting. I think about my season of motherhood and when my boys were itty bitty. The days and nights were incredibly exhausting., My daily coffee intake was no match for my lack of sleep. Nothing seemed to help the time fly by. However, now that I am in an entirely different season, I can see just how much time did indeed fly by. I blinked and my babies were running around playing legos and nerf wars.

I guess the moral of this story is to appreciate each moment and live it to the fullest. Since time does indeed fly by, spend your time wisely. Alright, now that I have stepped off my soapbox, let's get to it. Why did July pass by so quickly? Here's a little recap of my month.

- We had company for two weeks

- We played tourists and explored during that time

- My husband and I celebrated our 12th anniversary

- I submitted a proposal and children's book manuscript to a publisher

- I was able to be a guest on 2 different podcast.

- I had the honor to write and film a devotional for Homefront Heroes Ministry

- Writing content for HFH and creating new blog material

- Church, SLAM (workout group), Dr's appointments, everyday life

My July was pretty packed. It was a lot, but I loved every moment. In turn, here are a few of my favorite moments that I captured from the month.

(Our first set of visitors to kick off the beginning of July. The boys soaked up some grandparent time.)

( Our next round of company drove all the way from Colorado to visit us in the North Country.)

(During the two weeks of company I got to experience some incredible sights that the North Country has to offer. I can't believe I get to call this place home for the next few years.)

(I will always stop dead in my tracks to capture a beautiful sunset picture. Sunsets will never cease to amaze me.)

(Celebrated 12 years of marriage this year. What's better is that my husband was actually home this year so we could celebrate together in person.)

(One of my favorite things about the North Country is all the farmer self serve shops, and little garden stands everywhere.)

(The moment that filming got real. This was the sweetest surprise when I opened the case. Included with the equipment was a prayer card, a thank you card, and a note of encouragement.)

(This photo was taking on our hike at Bald Mountain in the Adirondacks. We were able to climb up the Rondaxe fire tower. The Tower was built in 1917 and had the most breathtaking views.)

I hope you enjoyed a little sneak peak into my month of July. The word that comes to mind when I think about this month and how full it was is the word THANKFUL. I am thankful that we got to spend time with family and friends. I am in awe that doors opened right and left this month that kept me busy writing, and I am incredibly grateful that I could create some special moments with my family. Obviously, time flies when you are having fun.

Make the most of your time,

Valerie
